Summer Staycation: Finding Paradise at Home
Posted Monday July 06th, 2015 by Caitlin Artigliere in Creativity + Art.When most people think of Summer vacation, they think of sitting on a tropical beach with a drink in their hand and the crystal blue water at their feet. But those can be a little expensive. That’s why the best solution is the staycation! No stress, no planning, and very little money spent; what more could you ask for?
If I haven’t sold you on the staycation yet, then let me tell you a little more about it. For starters, it’s a completely unique vacation. You can customize it to fit what you like instead of just focusing on the touristy highlights of a place that everyone sees. Second, a staycation is all the fun, stress free enjoyment of a vacation with the comforts of your own home. One thing people miss most on vacations is their own bed, but you don’t have to worry about that.
There are some do’s and don’ts to a staycation, however.
Don’t:
- Work or check emails
- Use social media
- Use TVs, computers, video games, Netflix, etc.
- Cook, clean, or do laundry
- Worry
Do:
- Be spontaneous
- Enjoy yourself
- Have fun
- Embrace opportunities
Fairly simple, right? It’s not like you’d do anything differently when on your tropical dream vacation. So now that we have some ground rules, let’s talk about what o do during your staycation. The key is to enjoy what you have. Find local things to do and also fun activities to keep you entertained when you’re at home. What you do is completely up to you, but here are some suggestions for your staycation.
- Go Geocaching :Take a hike and navigate the great outdoors to find hidden “treasure.”
- Visit Local Attractions:
- Museums
- National Parks
- Aquariums and Zoos
- Theaters
- Amusement and Water Parks
- Make Your Own Art/ Crafting: Let your creative juices flow and create a completely unique work of art or DIY craft that is the perfect outlet for that pent up stress.
- Kayak or Canoeing: Go rent one (or use your own), find a local lake, and shove off to enjoy a peaceful day on the water.
- Take Day Trips: If you live in an area that doesn’t have very many attractions, fill up the tank and take a day trip to a surrounding city that does!
- Backyard Camping: Grab a tent and set up camp right in your own backyard. It might not be the craziest adventure, but it will create some amazing memories.
- Enjoy the Great Outdoors: Take an entire day to do outdoor activities like fishing, biking, and hiking.
- Find a Concert or Local Festival: Both are relatively inexpensive and are a great opportunity for unique experiences.
Like I said before, what you do is completely customizable to fit what you like. So, now that you know what a staycation is (and some activities you can do during one), how do you plan on spending your Summer vacation?
