Inexpensive Gift Ideas

Posted Monday December 08th, 2014 by in Creativity + Art.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Something is in the air – all of that merriment, smiling faces and festive activities. So, with this in mind, I shall be providing you with a few inexpensive gift ideas that will be bound to leave your family and friends satisfied.

Gift Baskets

Gift baskets are a great and inexpensive gift ideas that can be truly personable depending on the individual. The key is to set yourself a realistic budget and then brainstorm little things that they might like, here are a few ideas for those who might be struggling:

Food Baskets:

  • Candy
  • Chocolates
  • Kettle Corn
  • Candied Apples
  • Ice Cream toppings (a great gift for ice-cream lovers, which includes: Cones, Sprinkles, KitKat chunks, gummy bears, M&Ms etc.)

Gift Baskets:

  • Gift Card
  • Coffee Beans / Tea Assortments
  • Mugs
  • Socks
  • Candles
  • Household gifts (Tea towels, kitchenware, bottle openers, etc.)

Homemade Kits

For chocoholics…

Hot Chocolate Mix – This is a wonderfully festive and inexpensive gift idea that only requires ingredients which you will most likely have at home during the holidays: Hot Chocolate mix, Marshmallows and Candy Canes. Place this into a Mason jar and add a nip of Baileys (for adults only, of course) and before you know it you have a great inexpensive gift for just under $5.

Vodka For colleagues, friends and neighbors…

Homemade Alcoholic Beverages – Try making your own fermented vodka or gin. One of my favorites is Cranberry and lime infused vodka. All you need is: A glass sealable jar Vodka, Cranberries, limes and sugar. Poke holes into the cranberries and only use the lime peel to introduce a hint of lime. The longer you leave it to ferment – the sweeter the taste. Depending on the quantity made, this could cost around $60 for up to 8 people (roughly $7.50 per person).

For the Mature Palate…

Cheese and Wine Basket – Make a hamper specifically catered to those with a mature palate. Then, place in a different assortment of cheeses, sausages, crackers, a cheese board and maybe a bottle of wine. This gift may not necessarily fall under the “inexpensive gift ideas” but it certainly does go down quite well with those who love to indulge in savory delights.

Once you’ve got your gift ready, it’s off to a local craft store to complete the finishing touches, such as ribbon bows and chalkboard labels. You’d be surprised how much people enjoy a heart-felt homemade gift.

Happy Holidays from all of us here at GEM Advertising!
