Walking With Our Buddies

Every once in a while, a special person enters our lives at the perfect time. For Account Manager Joe Lane, that came two years ago with the birth of his youngest daughter. Abigail is an amazing little girl with Down Syndrome. Few people realize how truly exceptional those affected by Down Syndrome really are: strong, incredibly talented and ready to take on the world around them. This month, there’s an incredible way in which you can help advocate and enhance the lives of those that are so dearly loved.

Joe and his wife Heidi have been very proactive in Abigail’s development, becoming very active in the CT Down Syndrome Congress in the process. The CT Down Syndrome Congress helps families connect and support one another, providing training and workshops for parents and professionals alike. The CDSC also advocates and educates about the gifts that people with Down Syndrome have and the contributions they can make to society when given the right support.

“What amazes me most about Abigail is the impact that she has on the lives of all those she meets rather than the impact that they have on hers,” said Joe. “She has helped me to understand that Down Syndrome is something people have, not something people are. It is only a part of a unique, amazing human being who has incredible purpose.”

Each year, the CT Down Syndrome Congress holds a walk to help raise money and build awareness for the diagnosis. This year, the event will be held on September 27th along beautiful Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, Connecticut. For the third consecutive year, Joe & Heidi are sponsoring a team in honor of their daughter – “sMiles for Abigail.” Last year, the team was able to raise over $3,000 to help support the CDSC. This year, the Lanes are hoping for friends and family alike to come down for some food, music and fun while supporting this outstanding cause.

The GEM family hopes to see you at Hammonasset starting at 11am on Saturday, September 27th!
