Clever Creative: These Ads Are on FirePosted Wednesday March 01st, 2017 by Caitlin Artigliere in Creativity + Art.
Today’s “Clever Creative” from Burger King is on fire, literally. In a new set of print ads for the company, we see images of some of their fast-food restaurants on fire. You may be asking yourself, “Why would they want to show their establishments burning down, especially when that’s usually a PR nightmare?” Well, because it reinforces their claim of always having flame-grilled burgers. It’s a bold move that may just help Burger King grill their competition. So, check out these ads that are literally on fire:
Why our GEMites liked this Clever Creative:
Clearly these ads are very different from any fast-food print ad done before. The unique concept not only sets it apart from every other fast food restaurant, it also shows transparency to the consumers. We love that authenticity and that the ad basically says, “Yeah, our restaurants burn down, but that’s only because our burgers are flame grilled, which makes fire a dangerous but delicious risk.” The company’s ability to put a positive spin on a bad situation is really commendable. Their creative team obviously has some very optimistic people, because only that type of person could see a burning building and find a pleasant way to look at it.
Why our fellow creatives should like this:
One of the hardest parts about creating a campaign is coming up with a concept that will get people to watch/look at your ad. Recently, we’ve seen some ads that are creative, but make no sense for the product or message being promoted. Some of these attempts to be creative result in the company’s message, as well as their brand, getting lost. Burger King’s new print ads, however, are both creative and fit with the company’s message of being “Flame Grilled Since 1954.” The reason our fellow creatives should love these ads is because the images used in them are not only impactful, but help emphasize their message and are as authentic as you can get. They are eye-catching in that “can’t look away from a car crash” kind of way, and if you are flipping through a magazine, you won’t be able to just pass by these ads.
Having a cohesive ad in which the visuals help you understand the ad’s message is extremely important, and if creatives are looking for a prime example of how to do it, these Burger King ads are just that.
